He was predeceased by: his parents, James Sterling Dunford and Bertha Dean Dunford; his wife Brenda Joyce Dunford; and his siblings, Minnie Freeman, Janice Rogers, Mildred Edwards, Wanda Smith, Albert Dunford, Lee Roy Dunford, Gary Dunford and Kenneth Dunford.

He is survived by: his children, James "Jamie" Dunford Jr. and Vickie Burnett (Jon); his brother Ronnie Dunford (Trish); his grandchildren, Brittany Gallimore, Chasidy Porter, Edrieanna (Hunter Wilson), Hanna Dunford and Miranda Dunford; and his great grandchildren, Jase Gallimore, Daelyn Arrington, Carson Sennett, Gracie Arrington and Isla Wilson. He is also survived by Several Nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 24th 2026 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the Barnett Funeral Home (325 Church St, Wytheville, VA 24382). A funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 24th 2026 at 3:00 PM at the same location. A burial will be held on Thursday, September 24th 2026 at the Jones Cemetery.
