He is survived by: his siblings, Tulia (Gilbert), Mary Lou Kates, Evelyn Kates, Arthur Kates Jr. (Carol) and Joseph Kates (Marshall); his nibling Cydnee Rose; his mother-in-law Jewel Polk; his nieces, Doreatha Kates, Deborah Kates and Tanesha Kates; his nephew Randall Brown; his wife Rosemary Kates; his children, Rosalyn Henry (Bernard), Charles Kates Jr. Daniel Kates, Niketa Nicholas and Theron Polk; his grandchildren, Charles III, Azarias, Zakarias, Mezah, Marciana, Zarina, Zamora Kates, Sharif Harvell and Angel Morgan; his sister Annette Foreman (Paul); his nieces and nephews, Diane Kates, Pam Brown, Michael Kates Sr. and Tim Kates; his cousin Patricia Griffin; and his sister-in-law Jacquelyn Carey. He is also survived by other nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.
