He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles "C. Y." Avery and Nellie Rideout Avery; his wife Joan Anita Ellis Avery; and his brother-in-law Duncan Liles. He is survived by: his sons, Michael S. Avery (Laura) and Allen Keith Avery; his grandson Forrest S. Avery; his siblings, Ada Liles and William R. "Billy" Avery (Sherry); and his brother-in-law Charles "Gary" Ellis. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
