He was predeceased by: his parents, Ollie Thornton and Inez Thornton. He is survived by: his wife Ruby Thornton; his daughter Gwendolyn D. Thornton; his stepchildren, Lorianne Smith (Jeffery) and James Samuel (Quenita); and his siblings, Ruth Coleman and Charles "Wes" Thornton (Lillian). He is also survived by six step-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren.
Visitation was held on Sunday, September 13th 2026 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the Mt Tabor Baptist Church (21795 Mattaponi Trail, Milford, VA 22514). A celebration of life was held on Sunday, September 13th 2026 at 2:00 PM at the same location.
