It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Roger Ellsworth Oakes Sr. of Mineral, Virginia, who passed away on January 22, 2024, at the age of 87, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by : his parents, Luther Elmer Oakes and Elsie Oakes Snellings; his brothers, Milton Oakes and Elmer Oakes; and his stepsons, Ellis Conaway and Dale Conaway.

He is survived by : his wife Mary Alice; his children, Roger E. Oakes, Jr., Robin Ann Durrette (Gordon), Rhonda Lynn Seay (Alan) and Robert (Toby); his stepchildren, Gail Nagy, Judy Conaway, Beth Conaway and Carol Conaway; his siblings, Chester Oakes, Jane Seal, Frances Rose (Roy) and Martha Dismukes; his grandchildren, Arlissa, Bobby and Jamie; and his stepgrandson Christopher Durrette. He is also survived by five great-grandchildren and numerous step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren and other extended family.
