He was predeceased by: his parents, David Wilson and Evelyn Almond (Stewart); his siblings, Barbara Jeanne Shelton (Earl) and David Almond; and his brother-in-law Walter Pitsenbarger.

He is survived by: his wife Lynn Almond; his daughter Erin May (Michael) of Fulks Run; his grandchildren, Zachary May of Fulks Run and Jenna May of Harrisonburg; and his sisters-in-law, Jane Pritchard of Garner, NC, Noni Yount (Brad) of Johns Island, SC and Sally Almond of Lynchburg. He is also survived by niece and several nephews.
