He was predeceased by: his parents, Hampton Green Ferguson and Hazel Copeland Ferguson; and his sister Sherry Shrewsbury. He is survived by: his wife Jean Wall Ferguson of Narrows; his sons, Roger D. Ferguson, II of Narrows and Brian E. Ferguson (Leighann) of Narrows; his grandchildren, Jessica Sartin (Josh), Allie Burby (Scott) and B. J. Ferguson; his great grandchildren, Jentezen Ferguson and Thelma Jean Ferguson; and his siblings, Norman Ferguson (Arleen), Betty Rogers (Jim), Cathy Tickle (Danny), Vallerie Orth (Don) and Lisa Wynn (Jeff). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
