It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Virginia Downey Bland of Nelson, Virginia, who passed away on December 30, 2022, at the age of 102, leaving to mourn family and friends. She was predeceased by : her parents, Arthur Lee Downey and Odessa D. Downey; her husband John Harvey Bland; and her sibling Lessie Downey Brown-Hilliard. She is survived by : her godchildren, Bettye Gregory Day-Preston (George), Joan Bland Taylor-Bonds (Elton), Kirk Parker Thorpe (Marjorie), Barry Day (Renee), Tamika Bland, Marshea Taylor, Kirk Thorpe, Jr. and Keon Thorpe; and her nephew Cleotis Brown. She is also survived by other loving relatives and caring friends.
