He was predeceased by: his parents, John Ayres and Lois Caperton Ayres; and his brothers, Owen Ayres and Johnny Ayres. He is survived by: his wife Melba Peacock Ayres; his daughter Stephanie Mikels (Shane); his grandchildren, Sean Mendoza (Alexis) and Kallista McMahan (Brett); his son Donald "Donnie" Ayres Jr.; his grandchildren, Isabelle Ayres, Ethan Ayres and Lorelei Ayres; his sister-in-law Pat Ayres; and also Jennifer Boni.
Visitation was held on Thursday, July 17th 2025 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM and on Tuesday, August 5th 2025 at 12:00 PM at the Bethlehem Christian Church (1549 Holland Rd, Suffolk, VA 23434). A funeral service was held on Thursday, July 17th 2025 at 2:00 PM at the same location.
