Gary Owen Boyd Obituary
Gary Owen Boyd passed into Heaven to be with his much-loved mother Lavinia, father Frank, wife Joyce, and son Troy on Tuesday, December 19, 2023 at 11:15 am EST. He lived to be the oldest living Boyd so far at 80 years, 6 months, and 21 days.
He leaves behind his loving, caring, and wonderful partner, Cynthia Ford, who was faithfully at his side when he passed at his home, in his bed, and on his terms. Also with Gary was his devoted and loving little sister, Linda Lee Boyd. Gary also leaves a grandson, Jake Boyd, the apple of his eye; great-grandson, Troy Edward-Owen Boyd, and his faithful dog, G.O.
Gary was member of AA for 33 years and 8 months, whereby with the grace of God, he maintained his sobriety. AA was God's calling to Gary, where he sponsored anyone and everyone who needed sponsoring.
Gary always said, "I walk the way I talk.". Gary was a legend of sports in Tidewater, VA first with baseball then football, wrestling, and track. At age 14, we was promised a major league contract by the New York Giants and, to his father's delight, the Yankees had him in their sights. He was Princess Anne High School's Golden Boy from 1958-1961 in all four sports. He was a trend setter; he originated the hiking of the button-down collar with the Gant shirt. Most of all, he was the greatest brother Bruce and Wayne Boyd could ever have!
A memorial service will be held at Hollomon-Brown on Tidewater Drive in Norfolk, VA on December 27, 2023 at 2:00pm. After Gary is cremated, the inurnment service will be held on December 29, 2023 at 11:00am at Forest Lawn Cemetery on Granby Street in Norfolk, VA.
He will be missed by many. With great love we, his family and friends, wish him well on his eternal journey with Jesus Christ his Savior.
