He was predeceased by: his parents, Fern Vernon and Raymond Vernon; and his siblings, Marleen Todd, Sandra Newmon and Rev. Dean Thompson.
He is survived by: his wife Phyllis Hamilton Vernon of Norfolk; his sons, Johnathan Hamilton Vernon (Sarah) and David Benjamin Vernon; his grandchildren, Kayla Fletcher, Dominick Vernon, Alyssa Vernon and Gavin Vernon; his great grandchild Elijah Vernon; and his sibling's children, Brian Lewis, Tammy Todd Wetzel, Cindy Reding (Missouri) and Tara Jensen (Kansas).
