He was predeceased by: his parents, Alma Beatrice Matthews and Ernest Lawrence Matthews. He is survived by: his wife Cheryl Dixon Matthews; his children, Jackie Bernard Matthews Jr. and Leslie Anne Matthews; his siblings, Jimmy Matthews and Eunice Lewis; and his granddaughter Maddison Brianne Jones. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.

Per Jackie's final wishes he fully donated his body to science and no services will be held.
