Janet, born on September 16, 1960 in Suffolk, Virginia, was part of many shared moments and relationships throughout life. She was predeceased by: her parents, William Thomas Smith and Shirley Jean Smith. She is survived by: her husband Joseph "J. D." Whitfield; her children, Meagan Jeanette Whitfield and Joseph Britton Whitfield (Dacia); her grandchildren, Savannah Pinchbeck, Winter Whitfield, Joey Whitfield and Roxana Whitfield; and her siblings, Jo Anne Smith White and Thomas Ray Smith (Shelly). She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, October 24th 2026 at 1:00 PM at the Bethlehem Christian Church (1549 Holland Rd, Suffolk, VA 23434).
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests memorial contributions be made in Janet's memory to Cancer Research Institute or a charity of your choice.
