He was predeceased by: his parents, Johnny Hassell and Bessie Hassell; his wife Earlene Guthrie Hassell; and his brothers, Cecil Dee Hassell, Michael Hassell and Ernest Harrison.
He is survived by: his daughters, Aretha Hassell (Chris) and Jolene Hassell-Duck (Antonio); his granddaughters, Nyla and Nia Duck; his siblings-in-law, Jacqueline W. Hassell, Regina Guthrie and James Guthrie; his nephews, Christopher, Cecil Jr. and Norman Hassell; and his friends, Ronald Jenkins, Emmet Forbes and Ron Vinson. He is also survived by relatives, church family, and friends.
Viewing was held on Friday, November 14th 2025 from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Metropolitan Funeral Service (7246 Granby St, Norfolk, VA 23505). A celebration of life was held on Saturday, November 15th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the First Baptist Church (1268 W 38th St, Norfolk, VA 23508).
