He was predeceased by: his father Wilmer Elwood; and his brother Wilmer Edmund Moomaw (Ned). He is survived by: his wife Thelma Funkhouser Moomaw of Orkney Springs; his children, Jennifer Gregory (Dan Madden) of Richmond, Karen Rose (Kevin) of Orkney Springs and Kevin Moomaw (Mary) of Orkney Springs; his grandchildren, William, Thomas Gregory, Lucy, Lettie Rose, Margaret and Elizabeth Moomaw; his siblings, John Moomaw (Judi) of Harrisonburg and Carolyn Chilton (John) of Orkney Springs; his sister-in-law Suzanne Moomaw of Charlottesville; and his uncle Robert Moomaw (Bob) of Bloomville. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
