He was predeceased by: his wife Carolyn Staton Mottley; his mother Gladys Layne Mottley; and his sister Judy Marie Mottley. He is survived by: his children, Justin Mottley (Brittney Thompson) of Pamplin and Autumn Renee Mottley; and his siblings, Joseph Ray "Joey" Mottley, Jr. (Lillian Coleman), Donna M. Coleman and Debbie M. Johnson (Scotty) of Prospect. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
