She was predeceased by: her parents, Clarence Edwin Merritt and Marjorie Elizabeth Merritt; and her grandson Michael Robert Lovelady. She is survived by: her husband Robert Elton Barnes; her children, Glenda Lovelady (David) of Winston-Salem, NC, Sandra VanScoy of Bloxom, VA and Robin Cromwell (Bruce) of Accomac, VA; and her grandchildren, Bobby Barnes, Holly Hart, Tyler VanScoy, Rachel Lovelady, Natalie Lovelady, Koryn Edmonson, Megan Cromwell and Nicholas Cromwell. She is also survived by 16 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
