He was predeceased by: his parents, John Kenney and Irella Kenney. He is survived by: his pet Fred; his wife Sylvia S. Kenney; his uncle Garland; his aunt Thelma Hunt; his children, Joyce "Sissie" Norman (Chris) and James Kenney; his grandchildren, Jennifer A. Bloom (Daniel Bloom III), Cassidy Lovejoy and Donald E. Kenney; his great grandchildren, Lilian, Nora and Daniel Bloom IV; and his friend Susan Lenter.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Poquoson Volunteer Fire Company and Poquoson Volunteer Rescue Squad in John's memory.

“Our sincere condolences to the Kenney Family. Sissie & Jimmy. Had a great unexpected visit at the race track in the middle of the season last year. John showed up and came down on the hill and sat with us the entire race. Took him back to his vehicle once it was over. Always had some great memories with him. He told us many stories of the past. You’ll be missed Big John”
