Edith Mathilde Dodd Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Edith Mathilde Dodd of Portsmouth, Virginia, who passed away on November 13, 2025, at the age of 83, leaving to mourn family and friends. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

She was predeceased by: her parents, Ludwig Hofmeister and Mathilde Richter Hofmeister; her husband Cecil R. Dodd; her friend James Williams; and her pet Stevie.

She is survived by: her children, Cheryl Dodd Duhon (James), Sylvia Dodd Powell (Brian), Gregory J. Dodd (Christen) and Karen Dodd Brooks (George); her grandchildren, Sean Howard (Sissy), Derek Howard (Erin), Brian Scott Powell, Jr., Matthew Powell, Garrett Brooks (Staci), Rachel Brooks, Mathilde Dodd and Andersen Dodd; her cousin Hans Hofmeister; her niece Edith; and her nephew Gregor. She is also survived by five great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Catholic Charities, the Food Bank, your local SPCA and Horton Wreath Society.
