With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Joseph E. Byrd (Portsmouth, Virginia), born in Roper, North Carolina, who passed away on August 1, 2023 at the age of 81. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

He was predeceased by: his parents, John D Vick and Elizabeth Byrd Matthews; and his son Joseph Earl "Joey" Byrd, Jr.. He is survived by: his wife Barbara Byrd; his daughter Bobbie Byrd; his sisters, Ruby Wright, Peggy Scott and Margie Morris (Vernon); his daughter-in-law Ann-Marie Byrd; and his grandchildren, Sarah Strong (Zack), Josie Byrd, Koby Byrd (Jenna) and Kaiden Byrd. He is also survived by five great grandchildren.
