We are sad to announce that on May 13, 2026, at the age of 100, Josephine Wright (Portsmouth, Virginia), born in Natchez, Mississippi passed away. Family and friends are welcome to send flowers or leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
She was predeceased by: her parents, Reeves Jackson and Beulah Jackson; her husband Sidney Wright; her son Oliver Evans; her siblings, James Jackson, Francis Jackson, Edna Washington, Ida McNeal, Annie Mae Thomas and Ruby; her grandson Orelious Wright; and her great grandchild Malik Winfield.
She is survived by: her children, Julius Wright (Earlene) of Brandywine and Clara Winfield (Robert L. Winfield) of Portsmouth; her granddaughter Donnetta Gladney (Bobbitt Gladney); and her great grandchild Vanessa Gladney. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 15 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends.
Viewing will be held on Thursday, May 28th 2026 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Presidential Funeral Services (1629 High St, Portsmouth, VA 23704). A funeral service will be held on Friday, May 29th 2026 at 12:00 PM at 1317 Gust Ln, Chesapeake, VA 23323.
