He was predeceased by: his parents, J. L. Compton and Lena Chafin Compton. He is survived by: his wife Susan Smith Compton; his children, Chris of Atlanta, Georgia and Mary Beth Matthews (Wayne) of Tularosa; and his siblings, Carolyn Houser (LeRoy) of North Chesterfield, Virginia and Mark Compton of Rio Rancho. He is also survived by brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law and their spouses; five grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and six great grandchildren.
