With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Alton Smith (Rice, Virginia), who passed away on September 29, 2025 at the age of 79. Family and friends are welcome to send flowers or leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
He was predeceased by: his parents, Arvel Smith and Lola Smith; and his brothers, Bertis and Curtis Smith. He is survived by: his wife Hettie Smith; his children, Edna Randolph (Mike), Christopher Smith, William Smith (April) and John Smith; his grandchildren, Cosima Smith, Timara Smith, Tiffany Smith, Cameron Smith, Faith Smith and Elyssa Smith; and his brothers, Freeman Smith, Edwin Smith (Lucy) and John Smith (Catherine). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 2nd 2025 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Shorter Funeral Home (1905 S Main St, Farmville, VA 23901). A burial will be held on Friday, October 3rd 2025 at 11:00 AM at the Trinity Memorial Gardens (22482 Prince Edward Hwy, Rice, VA 23966).
