She was predeceased by: her husband William H. Thorn III; and her parents, Simone H. K. Nelson and Robert P. Nelson. She is survived by: her brother Robert C. Nelson of Allentown, PA; her children, Frank Thorn of Chicago, IL and Roxanne Thorn of Tampa, FL; and her grandsons, Joseph and Patrick. She is also survived by three nieces, one nephew, four grand-nieces, and three grand-nephews.

“In the 1963-64 school year I was fortunate enough to have Ms. Thorne for my senior US Government teacher- and what a teacher she was! She was always prepared, informative, and challenging. But more importantly she saw in me - a very shy and insecure girl - a person I had not yet met or realized. Finally, she wrote a message in my yearbook that stuck with me the rest of my life as an educator. Her message shared her belief in me and encouraged me to speak up and out. Thank you, Ms. Thorne.”
