He is survived by: his brother Henry Anderson Shield; his former wife Elizabeth "Betty" Robins Porter; his children, Juliet Elizabeth Shield-Taylor, Robin Richardson Shield and Christian Edward Shield; and his grandchildren, Alexander Shield Tariot, Juliet Shield Tariot, Audra Elizabeth Shield-Taylor, Noelle Juliet Shield-Taylor, Edward Asa Shield, Laura Grace Shield and James Crawford Shield. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
