He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert K. Mitchell Jr. and Kathlyn Gaynell Meeks Mitchell; and his siblings, Elizabeth Mitchell Warren, Shirley Mitchell Sutphin, Kathlyn Mitchell Foster, Robert Kerr Mitchell, III and Timothy Hill Mitchell.
He is survived by: his brothers, William Edward Mitchell and Thomas Franklin Mitchell; and his children, Christopher Mitchell (Robyn), Matthew Mitchell (Arlene Raquel), Mark Mitchell and Jacklyn Mitchell. He is also survived by grandchildren and great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials or donations may be made to his hometown church First United Methodist in Martinsville VA or any of the following national foundations: Alzheimer's Association, American Cancer Society or Vietnam Veterans of America.
