She was predeceased by: her parents, John F. Smith and Florence Rowland Smith; her husband Perry Cooper; her sister Deborah; and her brother-in-law Ronald Johnson.
She is survived by: her aunt Jackie; her family Jackie; her daughter Vikki Edwards (Walker); her sister Dr. Johnnye Massenburg-Johnson (Earl); her grandchildren, Marzell, Alexander Walker, Trey, Charlese Norman, Monica, Kree, Kaylin, Albani Harris and Chelsie Lee (Exum); her close friends, Gwendolyn Hairston, Aretha Ellett, Willnett Williams, Roslyn Belton and Joyce Patterson; and her caregiver Candace Gilliam.
After her Alzheimer's/Dementia diagnosis, she often forgot many things, but she never forgot the lyrics to popular Gospel songs and would often be heard singing along with the CDs which the staff provided for her.
