With heavy hearts, we announce the death of James Latane Ware formerly of Richmond, Virginia, who passed away on December 26, 2021 at the age of 87. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

He was predeceased by: his brother Marshall T. Ware. He is survived by: his significant other Betsy Jones Ware; his children, Elizabeth Schaeffer Ware and James Latane Ware, Jr. (Randall); his grandchildren, Carter Winston Ware and Latane Roxanna Ware; his siblings, Dr. H. Hudnall Ware, III (Betty Byrne) and Isabel W. Burch; and his siblings-in-law, Patricia C. Ware and John Ernest Jones, Jr.. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the H. Hudnall Ware, Jr. and Mary Warren Ware Scholarship Fund at the Medical College of Virginia Foundation at 1228 East Broad Street, Box 980234, Richmond, Virginia 23298 or the charity of your choice.

Warren Whitworth lit a candle

“So sorry to hear of his passing. I was blessed to have had the opportunity to assist Dr. Ware many times over a 17 year period from 1979-1996. He was one of the finest surgeons I’ve worked with. If there such a thing as a “pretty radical neck procedure”, it was Dr. Ware who performed it. I was disappointed when Jennifer started working with him and I lost my spot (kidding of course)! I had tremendous respect for him as a person and a surgeon. Rest In Peace my friend! Warren Whitworth”
