James Shelburne Givens Obituary
With heavy hearts, we announce the death of James Shelburne Givens of Richmond, Virginia, born in Greensboro, North Carolina, who passed away on April 25, 2026 at the age of 83. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
He was predeceased by: his parents, George Howard Givens, Sr. and Ruth Helen Shelburne Givens; his brother George Howard Givens, Jr.; his sister-in-law Emmie Givens; his brother Julian Givens; and his sister-in-law Jane Givens.
He is survived by: his wife Fran Givens; his daughters, Beth Givens and Susan Givens; his son-in-law Doug Hibbard; his grandchildren, Kate Dotson, Abby Dotson and Silas Hibbard; his sister-in-law Sarah Dunn; and his cousins, Campout and Mary Helen Watkins. He is also survived by many nephews, nieces.
The family requests that you wear a bowtie, the orange and blue of UVA, the blue and gold of Emory and Henry, or purple for Alzheimer's awareness.
