It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Lyla I. Whitehead of Richmond, Virginia, who passed away on May 23, 2022, at the age of 88, leaving to mourn family and friends. She was predeceased by : her parents, Deacon Roy Lee Carrington and Otelia Johnson Carrington; and her siblings, Theresa C. Walkins, Claude R. Carrington, Roy Lee Carrington Jr., James Murray Carrington and Anthony Leon Carrington.

She is survived by : her former life partner James Spencer; her children, Gail Spencer Brown, Bobby Lee Whitehead and Monica Faye Whitehead; her granddaughters, Ariana Brown, Jade Whitehead and Simone Whitehead; and her siblings, De Leva Ganelle Hall (Frank), Iliga C. Gregory of Alexandria, VA, Shirley Anne Carrington of Richmond, VA, Harold L. Carrington (Jane) of Junction City and Perry W. Carrington (Alejia) of Farmville, VA. She is also survived by nieces, nephews, and cousins.
