He was predeceased by: his brothers, Ronnie and John; and his parents, Mildred and George. He is survived by: his wife Bobbie; his sisters, Lorain and Michelle; his son Mike Murphy (Martha); his stepsons, Christopher Hudgins (Sarah) and Matthew Hudgins; and his grandchildren, Taylor Murphy (Jack), Lauren Murphy, Banks Hudgins and Lily Hudgins.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the E. Claiborne Robins President's Scholarship at the University of Richmond or to American Legion Post 186 Midlothian.
