Robert will be remembered for the time spent with loved ones and the moments that brought joy to those around him. Though Robert is no longer present, the bonds he created and the experiences shared will endure. Robert’s memory will continue to be a source of comfort for all who knew him.
He was predeceased by: his former wife Ann W. Burrus; and his parents, Robert Lewis Burrus and Bessie Hart Burrus of Culpeper. He is survived by: his sons, David Burrus (Trish) of Chicago, Peter Burrus of Franklin and Lewis Burrus (Shannon) of Charlottesville; his granddaughters, Abigail, Eve and Maggie; and his sister Bessie Burrus Brooks.
He was a trustee of the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, the VMFA Foundation, and the Virginia Historical Society, and served on VMFA's West Wing Building Committee as counsel to Sydney and Frances Lewis. He was a director for the R.E.B. Foundation, which promotes excellence in public education, a member of the Governor's Commission on Intercollegiate Athletics, and a member of an advisory committee for the Mount Vernon Ladies Association.
