He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert Darnell and Spottswood Darnell; and his aunt Alice Burwell Palmer. He is survived by: his wife Sandra; his children, Catherine Lopez (Bill) and Robert; his grandchildren, Megan Rowland (Neil), Taylor Finizio (Chris), Will Lopez (Hailey Cook), Zachary Darnell and Robert Darnell Jr. (Destiney); his great grandchildren, Hunter Greyland, Camryn Grace, William David and Asher Jay; and his sister Anne Thurston. He is also survived by Papa to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Visitation was held on Sunday, November 9th 2025 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the West Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home (11020 W Broad St, Glen Allen, VA 23060). A graveside service was held on Monday, November 10th 2025 at 12:00 PM at the Westhampton Memorial Park (10000 Patterson Ave, Henrico, VA 23238).
