It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of William Barton Mason III of Richmond, Virginia, born in Charlottesville, Virginia, who passed away on April 6, 2023, at the age of 71, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his parents, Harry Coppée Mason and Susan Wilson Mason; his former wife Ann Arey Mason; and his brother James "Jimmy" Mason. He is survived by: his wife Tanya Jones Mason; his daughters, Catherine Mason Hammer (Stanley) and Susan Mason Golden (Chris); his stepdaughters, Anne Sims Thompson (Matthew) and Kathryn Kyle Edwards (James); his brother Chuck Mason; and his pet Niko.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Tee of Greater Richmond or the Boys & Girls Club of Metro Richmond.

“I feel blessed thatTanya allowed Tommy Henderson, Benn Legum and I to visit Bill at their home two weeks ago. Bill seemed to be in good spirits, a bit tired, but smiling, laughing and engaged in the stories as we tried to remember all the crazy and dumb things we did at CCS and our later years. Tanya was wise enough to give us enough space to embellish the story enough to blame it on Cliff, who was most likely the culprit. We were a tight knit group at CCS. I hope Bill enjoyed our visit with him”
