He was predeceased by: his parents, William Henry Neal and Jeannette Archer Neal; his son James Strupe Neal; his brother James Archer Neal; and his wife Mary Sue Strupe Neal.

He is survived by: his son William Henry Neal III (Holley Bell); his grandchildren, Katharine Neal Connelly (Patrick), James Graham Neal (Allison), William Carter Neal (Stephanie) and Patrick Caldwell Neal (Whitney); and his great grandchildren, Joel, Sam, Ben Connelly, Lucy, Nora, Adalyn, Violet, Boyd, Maysie and Mabel Neal.
