He is survived by: his wife Darlene Hylton Ayers; his sons, Steven Ayers and Matthew "Rocky" Alderman (Abby); his siblings, Patsy Viars, Jeannie Hutcherson, Marie Underwood (Gerald) and Ralph Ayers; and his grandchildren, Jerry "Coy" Ayers, Marlyna Conner, Christopher Ayers, Shyanne Alderman and Caselyn Alderman. He is also survived by four great-grandchildren; and other family members and friends.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 10th 2026 from 1:30 PM to 2:00 PM at the Wright Funeral Service (1425 Greensboro Rd, Martinsville, VA 24112). A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, November 10th 2026 at 2:00 PM at the same location.
