She was predeceased by: her parents, Joseph Mays, Sr. and Lomie Craggett Mays; her siblings, Elaine Mays, Yvonne Via, Lomie Estelle Mays, Tony Mays, Basil Mays and Joseph Mays; and her daughter Shirley J. Mays.

She is survived by: her daughter-in-law Shawanda; her siblings, Carrol "Kenny" Mays and Lucille Mays; and her children, Elizabeth Witt (Lee Roy, Jr.), Samuel A. Jr. Stephens (Shawanda), Antonio Stephens (Rhonda), Joseph Stephens (Jessica), Bernice E. Stephens and George W. Stephens.
