He was predeceased by: his parents, George D. Sr. Shay and Fannye Tutt Shay; and his sisters, Mary Jo Shay, Jean Abshire, Nancy Moore, Martha Ann Pendleton and Sue Roberts.
He is survived by: his wife Gaynelle Guilliams Shay; his children, Lisa Fouch (Dwayne), Mark Shay (Sandra) and Darin Shay (Tara); his grandchildren, Allan Shay, Tim, Matt Shay, Ethan, Keely, Darby Fouch and Michael Shay; and his sister Carolyn Hale.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorials be made to Northview United Methodist Church 521 Ridgecrest Drive Roanoke, Va. 24019.
