He was predeceased by: his parents, John McGinn and Cecelia McGinn; and his sister Dorothy Scherff. He is survived by: his wife Gail McGinn; and his children, Linda Knapp (Frank), Brian McGinn (Luisa), Kathleen Dobler (John), Kevin McGinn (Donna) and Steven McGinn (Rondianne). He is also survived by nine grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren.

Visitation was held on Monday, October 19th 2026 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the St. Andrew's Basilica (631 N Jefferson St, Roanoke, VA 24016). A Mass was held on Monday, October 19th 2026 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at the same location.
