She was predeceased by: her parents, Roy McCormick Sr. and Elizabeth McCormick (Watkins); and her brother Roy McCormick Jr.. She is survived by: her husband Bruce Mitchell; her children, Weldon "Trip" Dowd III, Chris Mitchell (Kristin Szurovy) and Leigh Anne Mitchell; her grandchildren, Lori Parr (Matt) and Richard Dowd; her great grandchildren, Owen Parr and Elijah Parr; her siblings-in-law, Robert Mitchell and Cheryl McCormick; her niece Vickie McCormick; and her daughter-in-law Kim Dowd. She is also survived by numerous extended family members and friends.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 21st 2026 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Oakey's South Chapel (4257 Brambleton Ave, Cave Spring, VA 24018). A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, October 22nd 2026 at 1:00 PM at the Crystal Spring Baptist Church (2411 Rosalind Ave SW, Roanoke, VA 24014). A graveside service will be held on Thursday, October 22nd 2026 at the Evergreen Cemetery.
