She was predeceased by: her parents, James McElwee and Mary McElwee. She is survived by: her husband Fred Shanks Jr.; her daughter Dawn Letchford; her siblings, George Nelson "Sonny" McElwee, Alice "Sissy" Dawson, Eleanor Crawford and James "Buddy" McElwee; her children, Tammy Monroe (James), Jeff Cauley, Tracey Smith (Andrew) and Ray Shanks (Emily); her grandchildren, Jamie Monroe (Kristie Jo), Dakota Shockley (Jacob), Steven Snyder, Amber Exposito, Brittany Young, Cassidy Smith, Autumn Shanks, Hannah Shanks, Laurel Shanks and Troy Shanks; her great grandchildren, Raylin Monroe, Thomas Shockley, Emmalynn Shockley, Kristen Snyder, Andrew Snyder and Waylon Jessee; and her sister Frances Wilson. She is also survived by loving nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 16th 2025 from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM at the Simpson Funeral Home (5160 Peters Creek Rd, Roanoke, VA 24019). A funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 16th 2025 at 1:30 PM at the same location.
