He was predeceased by: his parents, Murray A. Barnes, Sr. and Bethel Batemen Barnes; and his sister Linda Barnes. He is survived by: his wife Shirley Barnes; his siblings, Myrian Works (Larry) and Philip Carl Barnes, Sr. (Evon); his children, Denise Barnes (Donna), Melissa Moore (Tracy), Angela McGuire, Dee Anna Barnes and Jeff Smith (Angie); and his grandchildren, Jessica Barnes, Kayla Stump (Trevor), Miranda Woolheater (Michael), Corey Moore (Kelsey), Makenzie Stoots (Larry), Makayla McGuire, Tayler Patterson, Trey Patterson (Aimee) and Aidan Proctor. He is also survived by seven great-grandchildren and many loving nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 15th 2025 from 12:30 PM to 2:00 PM at the Edgewood Christian Church (1006 Peck St NW, Roanoke, VA 24017). A funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 15th 2025 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the same location.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Sheila S. Strauss Hospice House (4751 Cove Road, Roanoke, VA 24017) or Edgewood Christian Church (1006 Peck Street, NW, Roanoke, VA 24017).
