Though Paul may no longer walk beside us, his memory will forever be enshrined in the fabric of the lives of those Paul touched, a beacon of light guiding us through the darkness. In his absence, his spirit lives on — a gentle whisper in the breeze, a ray of sunlight on a cloudy day, a reminder that love knows no boundaries.
He was predeceased by: his parents, Mary Isabella Black and Herman Urquhart Black; his sister Barbara Black Robey (Bill); and his friend Jim Starr. He is survived by: his wife Evelyn Akers Black; his stepdaughter Debra Shepperson (Lee); and his sister Frances Black Haggerty. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 31st 2026 at 10:00 AM at the Oakey's North Chapel (6732 Peters Creek Rd, Hollins, VA 24019).
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be considered to Enon Baptist Church, 7971 Williamson Road, Roanoke, VA 24019, or to a charity of one's choice.
