He was predeceased by: his parents, Reuben Smith, Sr. and Bertha Lee Hayden Smith; his siblings, Barbra Lee H. Spinner and Judge Gregory E. Smith; and his sister-in-law Gracie A. Tweedy Smith.
He is survived by: his children, Alicia E (J. D.) and Jonathan E. Hatch, Sr. (Latysha); his grandsons, Jonathan E. Hatch, Jr. and Logan Hatch; his brother Ozell Smith; his nieces and nephews, LaTanya Smith Wingate, Martinez Martin, Lazell Smith, Jonaustin Smith and Miles Smith (Olivia); and his close friend Patsy Pennix. He is also survived by cousins, extended family members, lifelong friends, church family, neighbors.
Visitation was held on Saturday, September 5th 2026 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at the Mt. Carmel Baptist Church. A celebration of life was held on Saturday, September 5th 2026 at 1:00 PM at the same location.
