He was predeceased by: his parents, John Robert and Dell Rhea Thornhill; his wife Barbara Maxey Thornhill; and his brother Bill Thornhill. He is survived by: his children, Gary Thornhill (Charlotte), Darryl Thornhill (Tonya), Mark Thornhill (Angela) and Lisa Thornhill (Tim); his grandchildren, Lauren Thornhill (Austin), Stone Thornhill and Knox Thornhill; and his great grandchildren, Andrew (Andy) and Jack Harig.
Visitation will be held on Friday, September 25th 2026 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Oakey's South Chapel (4257 Brambleton Ave, Cave Spring, VA 24018). A graveside service will be held on Saturday, September 26th 2026 from 10:00 AM to 10:30 AM at the Evergreen Burial Park (1307 Summit Ave SW, Roanoke, VA 24015).
