She was predeceased by : her parents, Robert Tolbert and Bertha N. Coulson; her husband Samuel T. Thornton; her son Joshua Jones; and her brother Bob Tolbert.

She is survived by : her children, Kelly Tolbert (Tara) and Kari Slusser (David); her brother Dave Coulson (Jamy); her daughter Erin; her grandchildren, Christopher, Alexis, Megan, Cierra, Brandon, Dillon, Shannon, Jaiden, Emerson and Josiah; and her close friend Kathleen Paananen. She is also survived by numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Visitation was held on Friday, May 3rd 2024 from 6:00 PM to 6:30 PM at the Lotz Funeral Home (305 E Washington Ave, Vinton, VA 24179). A celebration of life was held on Friday, May 3rd 2024 at 6:30 PM at the same location.
