He was predeceased by: his wife Lela Johnson; his parents, Lilburn Johnson and Alma Johnson; his granddaughter Jamie Leonard Bishop (Drew); and his siblings, June, Laura, Ruby and Robert.

He is survived by: his daughters, Sherri Johnson of Ewing, VA and Sandy Newman of Jonesville, VA; his granddaughter Jessica Leonard Henderson (Brett) of Richmond Hill, GA; his daughters, Ryan Leonard of Atlanta, GA and Lynsie Rae McDaniel (Ryan) of Jasper, GA.; his great grandchildren, Peyton, William, Graham, Raelyn, Dr. Hannah Henderson Seale (Hartley) and Stephen Henderson (Makenna); his great great grandchild Winnie Seale; his siblings, Wanda, Faye, Gail and Ralph (Mary); his brother-in-law Fred Rouse (Lynn); and his cousin Joanne Lamb Carter. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
