He was predeceased by: his parents, Ernest "Shorty" Coleman and Melda Smith Coleman; his wife Linda Carol Blankenship Coleman; his son Bradley Coleman; his foster daughter Jamie Helton; and his siblings, Diana Keen, Judy Keen and Joe Coleman.

He is survived by: his son R. J. "Tater" Coleman (Kriste); his girlfriend Susan Smith; his foster daughter Janie Smith; and his sisters, Melda June Bond, Ima Lou England and Ernestine Bennett. He is also survived by grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
