He was predeceased by: his parents, Charlie Wesley Mathews and Effie Moore Mathews; his siblings, Willie Ann Tetter, Helen Mathews, Dorothy Mathews, Mabel Pillow, Margaret Hostetter, Harry, Gordon, Robert "Joe", Charlie "Dick", Edward "Buck" and Frank; and his siblings-in-law, Tom Tetter, Harold Pillow, Mack Hostetter, Paul Webster and Lucille.
He is survived by: his wife Faye Bailey Mathews; his sister Frances Webster; and his sister-in-law Lillie Mathews. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Viewing was held on Tuesday, June 10th 2025 from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Jeffress Funeral Home and Cremation Service (304 Lusardi Dr, Brookneal, VA 24528). A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, June 11th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the Diamond Hill Presbyterian Church Cemetery (1090 Mollies Creek Rd, Gladys, VA 24554).
