Howard Carroll Packett Obituary

With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Howard Carroll Packett (Salem, Virginia), who passed away on June 7, 2025 at the age of 93. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

In the hush of twilight, as the stars twinkle in silent homage, we reflect on the legacy Howard Carroll leaves behind and his impact on the lives of his loved ones. Though Howard Carroll may no longer walk among us, his spirit lives on in the memories held dear by his family and friends, a guiding light that illuminates their paths in times of darkness.

He was predeceased by: his parents, Ella New Packett and Carroll E. Packett; his wife Jane Witt Hogan Packett; and his brother William Edward Packett. He is survived by: his sons, John Packett of Baltimore and Mark Packett of Salem; his grandchildren, Errin Lynn Packett of Salem and Oliver Howard Packett of Baltimore; his sister Sue Ellen Avellar of Ellicott City; and also, Elizabeth and Evan Stillen of Salem.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to First United Methodist Church or Washington & Lee University in Lexington, Virginia.
